When Mel first messaged me inquiring about photography for their wedding, I squealed so hard.

Not even kidding.  Before I could finish reading her email I was bouncing around at my desk, chanting to myself PICK ME, PICK ME.  They were getting married at Steamworks, and I had been wanting to shoot a wedding there for quite some time.  Plus they were craft beer fans.

I excitedly emailed her back, and we planned to meet up at a local brewery (I love it when craft beers are suggested).  We sat together, shared some beers, shared a whole ton of laughs, and I answered any questions they could shoot my way.  I left that meeting feeling like I had just made new friends.  Awesome friends.  They were so light-hearted and easy-going.  My ideal couple for sure.

Their wedding did not fail to disappoint.  It was absolutely stunning in exactly the right way.  Simple.  Fun.  Carefree.  There were so many smiles that day.  So much laughter.  It was such a treat to capture all that human awesomeness.

Funny wedding day story? We had plans to do photos in this incredibly awesome public space – basically a field of grass on top of one of the local buildings. Well, the weather had other ideas. It was super windy, and the rain was threatening to pour. We had to do something quick. While I waited for the wedding party to join me in the hotel foyer, I snooped around a little bit, looking for a good spot for a first look. A woman hanging out with her toddler on one of the hotel’s big comfy chairs overheard me talking to one of the staff and pulled me aside to tell me there was a beautiful rooftop garden in our very hotel! Off to the side of the pool deck. I went and checked it out, and it was absolutely perfect. Thank you to the beautiful mama in the hotel hallway!

And who knew Steamworks had such an incredible venue!?!  I’ve been there so many times, and was never aware they had this fabulous ceremony space!  So here’s a huge shoutout to them!  Contact them here if you’re interested in a super rad venue for your wedding!
